
Dayle Hayes is an award-winning author and educator. Her creativity and common-sense have made her a sought-after speaker across the USA. As a parent and member of the School Nutrition Association, Dayle is dedicated make school environments healthy for students and staff. She collected school success stories for Making It Happen, a joint CDC-USDA project, wrote a chapter on communicating with students in Managing Child Nutrition Programs: Leadership for Excellence, and co-authored the Position of the American Dietetic Association: Nutrition Guidance for Healthy Children Ages 2 to 11 Years.
In recognition of her professional and volunteer leadership, Dayle has received numerous honors, including Montana Dietitian of the Year, and an ADA Excellence in Consultation and Business Practice Award. In January 2012, she received the Silver FAME Award as a Friend of Child Nutrition from the national School Nutrition Association. FoodService Director magazine recently named her as one of their “20 Most Influential” for 2012.
Hayes has served on the ADA Board of Directors where she chaired the Public Initiative Team and Technology Task Force. She also is a past president of the Montana Dietetic Association and Past-Chair of the School Nutrition Services DPG.

I am in Marquette, MI trying to make a small difference at an elementary school as a program advisor for Fuel Up To Play 60. Small wins lead to big wins. Thank you for your efforts and motivation!
Dale, Good day! I am with Second Harvest. We are the Feeding America Member for the 21 counties of eastern Washington and the 5 northern counties of Idaho. Our Mission, “Fighting Hunger, Feeding Hope”. Last year we distributed over 22 miilion pounds of food to those in need within the 26 counties we serve. My job at Second Harvest? I oversee our member services department…… in short, my group works with the programs and agencies (food pantries, soup kitchens, hunger relief programs) that get food to people in need. We have 3 childrens programs, a Mobile Food Bank program and 250 agencies that serve those in need. We work directly with WSU Food Sense and U of I Extension to bring nutrition information to clients. Every year (4th year running) we put on an agency conference, which is up and coming April 18th. My good friend at WSU contacted me and said her supervisor heard you speak at a recent conference in Moses Lake. She was really impressed with your knowledge and insight and thought of our conference and how your words and knowledge could make such an impact. My mom always says.
This is definitely a statement her own mother believed in.
I used to think,
“Well, we’re Italian.
We’re living the cliche.”
But then I thought more on that phrase.
When HAVE I ever gone hungry in my mother’s presence?
The answer is never.
I’ve never gone hungry.
My mom makes food abundant;
She spoon feeds love.
Her sauce is filled with strength, ambition, proud tears for her children, hugs, kisses and advice, among many other wonderful ingredients which are specific to my beautiful mother.
I’ve never gone hungry.
Yes, I know that now,
But, you see, it’s more than just food.
The woman that I see smiling at me
makes it her life goal,
determined that we never go to bed feeling empty inside.
Thanks to my mother,
we never go hungry in our hearts.
